An Elaborate Proposal

I have been in the wedding business for over 10 years, so I have heard my share of proposal stories. But Kriselda and Mark’s proposal story takes the cake. It has to be one of the best proposals I have ever heard or in this case read. Mark put so much thought and energy into this elaborate proposal, even including family. I honestly don’t know how he was able to keep it a secret, that in itself was a feat. But what a beautiful story. It is a testament to just how much Mark loves Kriselda.

Kriselda Tello & Mark Perez

Mark and I had been dating for 5 years already in 05/11/2009. I was starting to feel as if he just did not seem to want to marry me. Every time Mark and I would talk about marriage I would see a big smile on his face however his response was, “When you least expect it, I will ask you.” I thought this guy had forgotten because every holiday that would go by I would seem to expect it. Well, this passed year I just let it go and did not think much of it. A couple of weeks before on my birthday on September 2, Mark’s sister asked if Mark and I would be able to be the Godparents for her daughter. We gladly agreed. With all the preparations for my Goddaughters baptismal day, I kept noticing that Mark was very distant and was just not spending as much time with me as he usually does. I did not think much of it as I was busy myself. A couple of days before, Mark mentions to me that he wants to go to his co-workers wedding the same weekend that his niece would be getting baptized. I thought to myself, “Well that is kind of rude to go to a wedding on the same day that your nieces and nephews are getting baptized.” I thought that he would be forgetting as the day came closer. That same day that he told me, I went to the store to go shop for some dresses for the baptismal and for the wedding that he wanted to go to. I even ended up bumping into my grandmother at the store. Well, my grandmother is very fashionable so she picked out a dress for me and told me that I should wear for the wedding. I did not think much of it. Little did I know that my grandmother was on this too. It seemed that all of my family knew about the proposal as he had gone to all of my family and asked for permission. On September 27, 2014 Mark calls me to tell me that he is picking me up to go to church for the baptismal. The weather was finally beautiful as the previous day had been pouring. After the church, I see his family rushing to take pictures and start to leave. His niece Alexis, who is our God daughter wanted to leave with Mark and I so I tell Mark for her to stay with me at my house while they finish preparing for the baptismal party. He did not hesitate and told me that he had to help to pick up the food for the party. The after noon rolls by and I get a call from his sister saying that they were picking up Alexis at my home. I also received a text message saying for me to get ready because we were going to his co workers wedding for a while before the baptismal party. I initially did not want to go. Well, Mark gets to my home to pick me up, and we take off. I still was not ready and trying my best to do finishing touches in his truck. We finally arrive to the destination when I mention to Mark that we are at my aunt’s event center but I did not think anything of it. His conversation was very short with me. As soon as we pull into the location, I notice that Mark parks in the front of the place like if the party was for him. I did not say anything because I noticed the parking lot was full. He opens my door and helps me get down from his truck. As we are walking into the place, I am trying to fix my lipstick on the mirror and suddenly notice that I don’t hear any music or any talking going on from the inside of the place. As Mark opens the second door into the event center, I see everybody standing up in a beautifully decorated place. I start looking around and everyone is pretty much covering their faces with their phones as if they are trying to capture a special moment. I turn to Mark, just to see him grabbing a microphone and starting his sentence with, “Kriselda, I know that we have been together for a while now and I think its time that I ask you an important question.” As soon as he takes his hat off, I see him reaching into his pocket a pulling out a little black box from his coat and getting down on one knee. My knees get weak and of course I start to giggle. I tend to start laughing when ever I get nervous. I hear my giggle, and I start feeling my knees get weak, and my hands start to shake. As soon as he opens that little box, he gets the microphone and says, “Will you make me the luckiest man and marry me?” I was having all these feelings rushing over me that I could not bring my self to say yes. I just nodded my head and felt my tears rolling down my face and gave him my hand. As I look up, I see all my family and his family wiping their tears off their face. Mark and I walk around to say hi to our family and I see in one of the tables my best friend who I had not seen in years because she moved to Laredo. Mark had pulled the greatest surprise ever and when I least expected it.

Seriously, Mark pulled off this whole surprise in three days. Even though this was not the way that he had planned it because of the rainy days before. Till this day he makes fun of me and tells my that I still did not tell him yes or no but I think everyone knew that I said yes after that beautiful surprise.

Sincerely,

Soon to be Ms. Kriselda Tello-Perez
