Day 6 of the challenge

DAY6

DAY 6 Cook/make a meal together.

Scheduling quality time together can be challenging, so I suggest incorporating it into daily activities. For example, meal time.  Suddenly, something so simple as making a sandwich becomes a group effort. One smears the mayo, while the other piles the meats. Both of you have contributed to the delicious meal you are about to enjoy.  You can also go a little further and create a gourmet dinner together. Divide the chopping, peeling, cooking etc. among one another.  Meal time becomes more rewarding and the food tastes better when you have a hand in the preparation, especially when you’ve prepared it together.

Our Journey – Day 5

The challenge was more difficult than I had anticipated. I walked into Walmart and immediately felt confident I would complete the challenge with flying colors, but sadly I was wrong.  I walked through every aisle and every time I found something I knew my hubby would like the price would deflate my excitement. It is not easy finding items under $5.  The time limit proved to be quite an obstacle, as well.  I have to say the time passed by so quickly and with 10 minutes left I began to panic.   Finally I settled on a cup, in my hubby’s favorite color,  filled with all his favorite candies.  (I miss calculated and went over budget by 14 cents.) My hubby was sweet and said he liked it very much.

My husband, on the other hand, completed the challenge with flying colors.  He bought me a set of canvases, a small artist’s palette, and 3 small paints. I was so amazed by the purchase.  I loved it! (I had to ask about the budget, because I couldn’t believe that was only $5.  But it was pretty close, he was 50 cents over budget. The 3rd paint put him over, but he said he had to get me the three.) It was perfect, exactly what I wanted.  I asked him why he chose that and he said, “You said you wanted to get back to painting, so hopefully this can get you started.” I had mentioned it a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t believe he remembered.  I was putty in his hands.

Oh and FYI my hubby managed to do some grocery shopping and find my gift with about 10 minutes to spare.

The $5 Challenge

DAY5

DAY 5 Go to a dollar store (any store will do) and with $5 in your hand and 30 minutes on the clock buy one another a gift.

For some reason gifts are typically given on special occasions – birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s etc. But why? Not to say we shouldn’t , but it’s nice to give and receive a ‘just because’ gift. Those wonderful thoughtful gifts given ‘just because’: it made me think of you, it’s your favorite color, I saw you collect them, I wanted to say ‘I love you’ or ‘thank you’…Those unexpected gifts can put a smile on someone’s face and brighten up their day.

Can’t wait to hear what you buy one another.

HAVE FUN!

DAY 4  Our outdoor activity was nothing glamorous, but it was meaningful and fulfilling.  We spent the day beautifying our front yard. We’d discussed changing up the yard for a few months now, and it was the perfect time to tackle our to do list.  Especially since we had the day off- as wedding vendors weekends to ourselves are hard to come by- and it’s such a treat to spend time at home.  Our time at home means a great deal to us, because the journey to becoming homeowners was long and arduous. It was a day we never thought would come, so any day spent beautifying our home is a day well spent.

Day 4 is upon us

DAY 1 Check

DAY 2 Check

DAY 3 Unfortunately we already had plans, but we intend to make it up another day. There is no pressure to complete all the tasks, I created this challenge for couples to have fun. But we want to challenge ourselves and really make an effort to complete them all. I think if you want to grow as a person or couple you have to do things that may be out of your comfort zone, routine, or norm. Sometimes you have to shake things up a bit.

Now on to Day 4.

DAY 4 Enjoy an outdoor activity together. If the weather permits. I know we’ve had a great deal of rain the past couple of weeks, so make it an indoor activity if you aren’t able to go out.
